FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM A DOCTOR?

You do not need a referral from a doctor to see a psychologist in private practice. You are welcome to contact me directly at 250-480-7142.  I also welcome referrals from school teachers, principals, speech language pathologists and other psychologists, family physicians, pediatricians, or psychiatrists.  Referring clinicians can call me directly, or fax me at 778-698-3917 using this form.

WHAT DOES AN ASSESSMENT COST?

My fee is $235 per hour, which is consistent with the BC Psychological Association recommended rate..   Assessments usually take about 15 hours.  The cost of an evaluation will depend on the nature of the evaluation. Please contact me to discuss the assessment that interests you.

HOW CAN I PAY FOR AN ASSESSMENT?

Payment will be required at the conclusion of each caregiver and child/youth meeting. Also, at the caregiver feedback meeting, a payment will be required to cover the session and report preparation. Cash, checks, credit card, and electronic payments (via e-transfer) are accepted.

DOES INSURANCE COVER PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT?

Your insurance plan may offer coverage for psychological assessment and consultation. Please check with your insurance company to see if coverage is an option for you. I do not provide direct billing. You should make plans to pay me directly and then attempt to collect reimbursement from your insurance company.  Once payment is received, I can provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company.

WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL?

I typically schedule two consecutive half days for each client to complete testing. Given that I dedicate this much time to each person, and appointments are usually booked weeks in advance, cancellations or no-shows are quite costly and are unlikely to be rescheduled quickly. For this reason, bookings for psychological assessments require a $500 retainer deposit This retainer is fully refundable if notice is provided 14 days or more before the first appointment (minus any fees for work already completed, such as interview with teacher and/or administration and scoring of rating forms)..
Once the assessment has started, I require a minimum of 48 hours notice for rescheduling or cancellation of appointments, to allow me to find someone else to take the appointment. Without such notice, fees will be charged for the scheduled time at my hourly rate unless alternative arrangements are discussed.
